Madison Keys couldn’t create quite the hubbub in her Grand Slam women’s tennis encore.
Keys, a 16-year-old Rock Island native, was bounced 6-2, 6-1 by China’s Zheng Jie in Tuesday’s first round of the 2012 Australian Open in Melbourne.
Starting their match approximately 2:30 a.m. in the Quad-Cities, Keys and Zheng, 28, were even through the first four games, holding serve to 2-all. But Zheng, ranked No. 38 in the world and a former Australian semifinalist, assumed control and rattled off 10 of the final 11 games over a dispirited Keys.
