Former world No. 1 junior and four-time junior Grand Slam champion Taylor Townsend, 18, will make her Grand Slam main draw debut at the 2014 French Open after winning the Har-Tru USTA Pro Circuit Wild Card Challenge on Sunday May 4, 2014. Townsend clinched the wild card by advancing to the final at the $50,000 USTA Pro Circuit event in Indian Harbour Beach, Fla., with a 3-6, 7-6(4), 6-4, win over Anett Kontaveit.
Unseeded Robby Ginepri needed only to win his semifinal match to claim the USTA Har-Tru Wild Card Challenge, which he did, beating Ireland’s James Magee(NC State) 6-1, 6-4. But Ginepri came back two hours later and put an exclamation point on his success, beating No. 4 seed Frank Dancevic of Canada 6-3, 6-4. Dancevic had beaten top seed Donald Young 6-4, 6-4 in the semifinals. The 31-year-old Ginepri, who will be playing in the main draw at the French Open for the first time since 2010, when he made the fourth round, lost only one set in Tallahassee.
