The five-times Wimbledon champion is helping midfield man McPhail battle against his career-threatening illness.
McPhail and Williams each have to overcome Sjogren’s Syndrome, a condition which leads to extreme fatigue and joint pain.
The problem, which is almost unknown amongst athletes, ruled McPhail out of Sunday’s Carling Cup Final showdown with Liverpool at Wembley.
But, with Venus’ assistance, he is determined to battle back and play a part in the Bluebirds’ bid to clinch promotion in the closing months of the season.
Venus has overcome her own problems and won a total of 43 women’s singles titles over the course of her record-breaking career.
And she is offering her advice to McPhail on a regular basis about how he too can battle back and do his bit for Cardiff once more this season.
“Venus has been a fantastic and I thank her for that,” said McPhail.
“Hopefully we have been able to help and give each other support.
“It was such a shock when she rang my home for the first time and we spent 40 minutes chatting.
